Karen Schoch
Karen Schoch is an artist working in fiber and textiles. She grew up in Richmond,
Virginia, and moved outside of the Philadelphia, PA area in 1986. She semi-retired from being a professional counselor in July 2022. She works around seeing a few clients each week and watching grandchildren to work in her studio attached to her home.
“I am often inspired by the natural world and drawn to both color and texture. I often find myself slowing down to breathe in and ponder something that catches my eye. I bring these images and their colors into the studio.
In my work I am also attuned to the possibility of deeper meaning-making: shifts in perspective, metaphors, light coming into the darkness, transformation, redemption, restoration, resilience & hope. Eugene Peterson says it well, ‘Art is making what is invisible visible in faith.’
More recently I have begun to write poetry to go with either a specific series of textile works or individual pieces.”
